I’ve never been so upset over the closing of a dev shop

This would have saved the Star Wars games franchise.  Damnit damnit damnit.  Free Radical recently closed its doors due to the economy I’m sure, but their upcoming lineup was gold.  Damn the world!

Brutal Legend!!!!! Published by EA?

Tim and Double Fine take a long time to get a game out the door, but that’s because endless care and love are put into every one… and because no one wants to take the risk of a DF IP.  After Majesco performed horribly when it came to marketing Psychonauts, no one trusted that a DF game could sell, including the new axis of evil Activision Blizzard (I’m sorry you merged with them Blizz).  But now that AB has surpassed EA, EA has been making some decisions that are definitely favoring the fan over the concern of selling a billion copies, but also in hopes that they will sell a billion copies.

Psychonauts was still a high ranking game as far as reviews were concerned, and if marketed properly, could have sold way better than it did.  Now that Brutal Legend is in the spotlight because of the publisher hunt, plus being advertised with Jack Black’s name attached, it should sell significantly better.  It will also, without a doubt, be an incredible game.

I still have my Gamestop preorder bonus T-Shirt from preordering the game in November 2007.  First 666 people got one!  I was worried I’d own a shirt for a game that never came out, but no worries now.  As odd as this may sound, thank you EA.  You have proven yourself to be a kinder god, as if there had been a gaming Vatican II.

Now, Activision Blizzard, calm yourself down.  Guitar Hero has peaked and too many Call of Duty games will ruin the franchise.  Let the Blizzard side of the company take over for a little bit, to develop and/or publish some real quality games.

Guitar Hero for the Blind

http://kotaku.com/5092565/frets-on-fire-for-the-blind

Probably one of the better ideas of the time.  Going blind for me would be the worst thing imaginable.  I’d lose my job, movies, video games.  I’m glad there are people out there doing stuff like this to allow the blind to play games.  I think it’d be great if this succeeded and you could play Rock Band with a blind guitarist or bassist, and hell, vocals too (if they know the song!).

Hope to see more of this eventually.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Darth Vader in The Force UnleashedLong time no post. Apparently a lot of stuff happens in life and before you know it, it’s September and you have been playing so many damn games that you haven’t talked about, it’s a sin. This is the first of many, I hope. Unfortunately, this post is of a mediocre/terrible game. It has a fantastic story for the time between Episodes 3 and 4, the visuals are beautiful, and the physics and different engines Lucasarts used are amazing. There are a few other things that make the game interesting, but all of it is held down by the terrible gameplay choices Lucasarts decided to make. The best way to sum it up is, the first level is the best because you play as Vader, and all the power you have during that level is exactly what playing as a Sith warrior should feel like. That’s why I used that picture for the intro to this article, because it is the highlight of the game. But as soon as you are given the apprentice, stuff just starts to go downhill.

Condemned: Criminal Origins

Isn\'t he adorable? The Condemned series, so far, has been a pretty intense ride, one that has kept me enthralled for the past few weeks. Today I will go over the first game in the series, Criminal Origins. Criminal Origins (CO) is a solid scary ass game, even though the graphics were not too hot, despite it being on the Xbox360. CO introduced us to all of the basic Condemned gameplay elements, which include brutally painful combat, using items you find just lying around on the floor, as well as the Crime Scene Investigation modes, to collect evidence to help solve the game’s overall case.

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword

Ninja Gaiden DS Game I don’t have too much to say on this game since I just started it, but if anyone is on the fence about trying this game, I would definitely push you towards the “get this game” side. The DS controls are great, using the stylus to hack and slash could never have been done better. If only the Wii could have controls as smooth as these for sword slashing games.
